Marvelous Canceled Mobile Story of Seasons After Breaking Up with Tencent
After the alliance with Tencent broke down, the mobile game based on Story of Seasons became a victim - Marvelous closed the project.
Marvelous canceled the mobile game based on the Story of Seasons series amidst the breakdown of its capital alliance with Tencent, which also led to the company losing its status as Marvelous' largest shareholder – now Hayao Nakayama holds that position.
Marvelous announced the cancellation of the mobile game based on the Bokujou Monogatari (Story of Seasons) series. The decision is linked to the "termination of the business alliance" with Tencent and its Image Frame Investment.
This became known after a meeting of Marvelous' board of directors on July 31, 2026. Due to the end of the cooperation, Shin Jun Oh also resigned as an external director of the company.
Details about the canceled game were not disclosed. Marvelous only stated that the project was in active development but was closed due to "project profitability" and "changes in the business environment."
The latest game in the series was the remake of Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, an updated version of the 2008 Nintendo DS project. The game was released on Switch, Switch 2, and PC in August 2025, and reached PS5 and Xbox Series X in May 2026.
