Although the animated comedy series "Star Trek: Lower Decks" concluded in December 2024 after five seasons, the story of the USS Cerritos crew may still continue. Jerry O'Connell, who plays Jack Ransom, revealed this during San Diego Comic-Con.
According to the actor, the voice cast stays in touch in a group chat and is waiting for the opportunity to work together again if a continuation gets the green light:
"We have a group chat with the 'Lower Decks' crew. Mostly we wish each other happy birthday and ask who's going to the convention in Las Vegas. But every time I see Mike McMahan, I tell him, 'Dude, when you're ready, we'll be there.' He's incredibly talented. [...] Mike isn't done with Starfleet yet – it's in his blood."
However, O'Connell did not state that a continuation is already in development or has been approved by Paramount+. His words rather reflect the team's desire to return to the series if such an opportunity arises. Nevertheless, fans saw the actor's comment as a hint that some work might already be underway behind the scenes to bring back "Lower Decks" – or, at the very least, discussions about a possible continuation.
Earlier, McMahan admitted that he had enough ideas for at least two more additional seasons. In a potential continuation, the Cerritos crew could travel to the Delta and Gamma Quadrants, meet a friendly version of Weyoun, and once again film a Vindict movie on the holodeck. The showrunner also wanted to further explore the story of T'Lyn and the inhabitants of the Cetacean Ops.
