After 27 years, Syphon Filter can be played on PC - a fan port of the PlayStation 1 classic has been released
Recently, a developer under the nickname Madxbio97 presented an unofficial PC port of the first part of Syphon Filter. This shooter was released in 1999 on the PlayStation 1 console.
The story centers on special agent Gabriel Logan, who must stop an international terrorist. In the process, he discovers that a dangerous virus has been created, and his assignment turns into a mission to save the world.
Developer Madxbio97 explained that his project combines the original PlayStation game code with a native Windows shell for rendering, controls, menus, sound, and FMV playback.
The port runs on PC via a launcher, with support for high resolutions and an unlimited frame rate. In addition, an optional "Russian text pack ViT Co" is available for all 20 missions, menus, briefings, and other in-game text. The developer clarified that "speech, music, and FMV are always taken from the selected USA v1.1 image and are never replaced."
The source code for the "SF-pc-port" project was published on GitHub in Madxbio97's repository. The build does not include game files / Syphon Filter image; players need to find it themselves.
