The release of Halo: Campaign Evolved has been met with a wave of criticism from players. The user score for the game on Metacritic has dropped to 5.8 out of 10, and almost half of the reviews were negative. Players are massively lowering the project's rating.

The main complaints are related to Microsoft's technical solutions. Owners of physical editions, especially on competitor consoles, found that the disc essentially serves only as a key to download the entire game from the internet.

Even to play the single-player campaign, a mandatory login to a Microsoft account is required. Many buyers of the boxed version consider this requirement unacceptable.

Players also criticized the quality of the remake. In their opinion, the developers worsened the atmosphere of the original, changed the gameplay and missions, and also did not pay due attention to technical polishing. Some users claim that AI might have been used in the creation of certain dialogues and cutscenes, which, according to some of the community, does not correspond to the level of the iconic series.
