Capcom has revealed new details about Onimusha: Way of the Sword, confirming that the new installment in the cult series will not be limited to the familiar linear levels. Although the game will retain its classic structure, players can expect more spacious locations with additional activities and optional content.

The innovations became known thanks to an exclusive PC Gamer preview. According to journalist Robert Jones, the full version of the game will feature significantly more open areas than those presented in the demo.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is not an open-world game [...] The main storyline will remain, but you will be able to deviate from the route to complete side quests and engage in other activities.

Game director Satoru Nihei also confirmed that players can expect secondary characters, hidden bosses, and quests dedicated to the history of Japan's ancient capital.

You will be able to talk to various secondary characters, and you will also encounter hidden bosses. Kyoto has a rich history and many mysterious legends, so players will be able to embark on quests that allow them to see this side of the city. We want people to be able to experience the charm of Kyoto.
