"There would already be a second sequel": Director of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" Explained the Sequel's Delay
Director of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" Destin Daniel Cretton once again commented on the prolonged development of the sequel. In an interview with TheWrap, the filmmaker suggested that with a more stable film industry, Marvel could have released several new films about the hero over the past years:
"If you look at what happened to the industry, at least from my perspective, everything went to hell after the movie came out. I think if Marvel had maintained its previous position, we might have already had two sequels. But who knows?"
Cretton noted that the development of the second part is ongoing, but changes in the industry after the pandemic significantly affected Marvel's plans. The first film was released in 2021, when cinemas in many countries were still operating with restrictions or remained closed. Despite this, the film grossed $432 million worldwide and became one of the most successful releases of that period.
During the waiting period, Cretton managed to work on "Wonder Man," direct "Spider-Man: New Day," and begin work on the Hollywood adaptation of "Naruto." He is still attached to "Shang-Chi 2," but Marvel has not announced a production start date or premiere.
Meanwhile, fans of the hero will be able to see Shang-Chi in "Avengers: Doctor Doom," which will be released on December 18, 2026. This will be the character's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his debut in 2021.
