Destin Daniel Cretton, creator of "Wonder Man," believes that the decision to cancel the second season of the series did not come from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. In an interview with TheWrap, the director stated that Feige loved the project and, in his opinion, would have continued working on it under different circumstances:
"I love this show madly. If it were up to me, we would keep making it. And I truly believe — though this will sound strange — that if it were up to Kevin, we would also continue working on it."
Cretton emphasized that he does not have internal information about who made the final decision. He suggested that financial performance, which Disney uses to evaluate its streaming projects, could have been the reason:
"I'm just thinking out loud and I don't fully understand the streaming business. But if it made commercial sense, we would have continued the series because Kevin loves it as much as I do. It's terribly disappointing. My heart is broken, but I still need to understand the reasons."
Earlier, showrunner Andrew Guest also admitted that Marvel did not provide him with detailed viewership statistics. According to him, the cancellation was the result of an internal decision by Disney and Marvel, even though the companies had approved the second season just a few months prior.
By the time of the cancellation, the actors had already signed contracts and cleared their schedules. The writers' room was supposed to start work in August, and filming was planned to begin in early 2027. Guest managed to write the first episode and prepare a season plan, but now the future of Wonder Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unknown.
