Xbox to copy PlayStation's platinum trophies by year-end

News 0

Microsoft appears to be preparing to expand its achievement system on Xbox by adding a reward reminiscent of PlayStation's platinum trophies. This was hinted at by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, responding to user questions on social media.

The history of achievements on consoles began with the Xbox 360, where Microsoft first introduced the Achievements system. Later, Sony implemented its own trophies on the PlayStation 3 – this happened in 2008, and the first game to support them was Super Stardust HD. Over time, the presence of trophies became mandatory for new releases on PlayStation, and the platinum trophy became a symbol of completing a game.

Now, many years later, Xbox will likely get a similar system. When asked about the appearance of a “platinum” achievement, Asha Sharma replied: “The team is working on something that will be released later this year.”

Microsoft has not yet disclosed how exactly the new feature will be implemented. It is also unknown whether it will extend to already released games or will only be available in new projects.
