Wake up, Neo: Warner Bros. Confirms Development of Fifth "Matrix" Film

The continuation of the cult sci-fi series will be released no earlier than 2028.

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the fifth installment of "The Matrix" is still in development. The studio has included the film in the list of projects scheduled for release after 2027. There is no exact premiere date yet.

The script is being written by Drew Goddard, known for "The Martian," "The Cabin in the Woods," and the series "Daredevil." Plot details and the cast are being kept secret. It is currently unknown whether the film will be a direct continuation of previous parts or tell a standalone story within "The Matrix" universe. Keanu Reeves' return as Neo has also not been confirmed.

Along with the new "Matrix" film, Warner Bros. confirmed the development of a live-action "Jetsons" movie starring Jim Carrey and a full-length "Game of Thrones" spin-off about Aegon Targaryen's conquest of Westeros. All three films are planned for release no earlier than 2028.
