Studio SHAFT unveiled a new poster for the film "Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising-" and confirmed its premiere on August 28. The film will be the franchise's first project to be released in IMAX format.
"Walpurgisnacht: Rising" will continue the events of "Rebellion Story," which was released back in 2013. The new film is considered both the conclusion of the previous story and the beginning of a new chapter.
The main creative team of the series returned for the sequel. Akiyuki Shinbo serves as chief director, Yukihiro Miyamoto is directing, and Gen Urobuchi from Nitroplus once again wrote the screenplay. Ume Aoki is responsible for the original character design, Junichiro Taniguchi for its animation adaptation, and Yuki Kajiura composed the music.
Aoi Yuki, Chiwa Saito, Kaori Mizuhashi, Eri Kitamura, Ai Nonaka, Kana Asumi, and Emiri Kato will also reprise their roles.
The film's journey to the screens took several years. The sequel was announced back in 2021 and was originally planned for release in 2024, but the premiere was repeatedly postponed due to production circumstances. The dates for international distribution have not yet been announced.
