The creators of "Paddington" and "Wonka" spoke about the canceled "Star Wars" droid film

Paul King, director of "Paddington" and "Wonka," worked with screenwriter Simon Farnaby on their own film in the "Star Wars" universe. The authors wrote a script for a story about a droid, in which no well-known character from the franchise appeared.

According to Farnaby, Disney and Lucasfilm offered the duo the project. However, their original approach was too far from the familiar "Star Wars," so the studio did not launch the film into production:

After Lucasfilm's refusal, the authors switched to "Wonka" with Timothée Chalamet, which subsequently achieved great box office success, but the failed spin-off may still reach screens in a different form.

King and Farnaby are reworking the original concept into a standalone sci-fi film, no longer connected to George Lucas's universe. Details of its plot and production timelines have not yet been disclosed.
