The Digimon franchise has achieved its highest profitability in its 26-year history. Current figures have surpassed even 2000, when the original anime series was at its peak popularity.
This was revealed by Bandai Namco Entertainment President Nao Udagawa in an interview for the anniversary issue of Weekly Famitsu, which went on sale on August 6. The executive attributed the record to the simultaneous success of video games and the Digimon Card Game collectible card game, but did not disclose the specific profit amount or the calculation period.
Among Bandai Namco's recent successful releases is the mobile idle-RPG Digimon Up, which generated almost $8 million in its first two weeks from in-app purchases alone on Google Play and the App Store. However, one of the main drivers was undoubtedly Digimon Story: Time Stranger. The RPG was released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series in October 2025 and sold a million copies in two months – no previous Digimon Story title reached this mark faster.
In July 2026, Time Stranger also appeared on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Udagawa believes that the project's potential has not yet been exhausted: in 2027, the game will receive a major expansion.
Bandai Namco is already preparing for Digimon's 30th anniversary, which the franchise will celebrate in 2027. The premiere of a new anime is planned for this period. In addition, in autumn 2026, Digimon: Our Best Adventure – a collection of the best episodes from the first four series, compiled with fan participation – will begin airing in Japan.
