DC Studios head James Gunn confirmed that the animated series about Blue Beetle is still in development. A fan asked the director for an update on the project, to which he replied: "It's still actively in development."
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation launched the project into production in the summer of 2024, but there has been little news about it since. The animated series is intended to expand on the ideas of the "Blue Beetle" film but tell a standalone story.
Miguel Puga was appointed as showrunner and director, and Cristian Martinez was entrusted with the script. The director of the full-length film, Angel Manuel Soto, joined the executive producers.
While the project does not yet have an approved release date, audiences will definitely see Blue Beetle in "Superman: Legacy." Xolo Maridueña previously hinted at his appearance in the "Superman" sequel, and his involvement was recently confirmed by major Hollywood media outlets.
"Superman: Legacy" is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2027.
