(18+) 15 Years Later, Modder Shows Off Sleeping Dogs Prototype - Files Appear Online
Some players still remember Sleeping Dogs to this day. The Grand Theft Auto-style game offered an interesting story about an undercover police officer in Hong Kong, as well as spectacular hand-to-hand combat using the environment. However, the project never received a sequel, and the subsequently developed MMO game Triad Wars was canceled.
Recently, the author of the YouTube channel GrandTheftAero showed an early build of Sleeping Dogs. It dates back to November 2011, meaning it was created nine months before the game's release. The files were obtained from a special developer console version.
Some assets/textures were not yet finalized at that time. The script and content in missions varied significantly in places. For example, in the 18th mission, players pursued a character named Naz, while in the early build, the chase was for Ming (who is removed from the story much earlier in the final version of the game).
Players remember not only Sleeping Dogs but also Triad Wars – there is a fan project called "Triad Wars Revived Project." Modders are working on a full-fledged MMO server emulator and restoring gameplay mechanics. The main game systems are already working: you can log in, drive cars, shops are functional, and raid, racketeering, and inventory systems are available.
