The final eighth episode of the third season of "House of the Dragon" has been released on HBO Max. Meanwhile, showrunner Ryan Condal is already preparing the fourth season, which will conclude the story of the Targaryen civil war.
The creators have determined the overall structure of the continuation, and Condal has submitted the draft script for the first episode to HBO. During the airing of the third season, the showrunner took a short break from work to temporarily distance himself from the project before preparing the finale:
"We have an incredible season ahead. As crazy and big as the third one was, I think the fourth will be even bigger."
Condal also called it a great privilege to be able to conclude the story at a moment chosen by the creators in advance. According to the showrunner, the team is already enthusiastically returning to work, and the final season will expand the world of the series:
"The opportunity to tell a story, to write its ending ourselves, and to decide where and when it ends, is a great privilege. Such freedom is not always found in the television industry. Therefore, we are returning to work with great enthusiasm. New characters, dragons, and locations are ahead, which, I hope, will make the final season a worthy conclusion to the series."
The premiere date for the fourth season has not yet been announced. It is assumed that the continuation will be released no later than the summer of 2028. Condal's contract with HBO runs until 2029, but this period also includes the development of new projects after the completion of "House of the Dragon".
