Enthusiast Ports Infinity Blade to Android 16 Years After iOS Release

News 0

An enthusiast has released the first public version of an unofficial Infinity Blade port for Android. The author calls the project an attempt to preserve the cult mobile game, previously released exclusively on Apple devices.

The port is primarily designed for modern Android devices, including foldable smartphones, and is practically indistinguishable from the original iOS version, with the exception of higher-quality textures. The project has not been tested on older models, and some modern devices still experience compatibility issues.

The author is currently continuing to fix discovered bugs. Following initial feedback, he has already eliminated the black screen on devices with Mali and Immortalis graphics, as well as a number of issues with model and interface element display on GPUs from Mali, Immortalis, and PowerVR.

The original Infinity Blade was released on iOS in December 2010. The action game from ChAIR Entertainment was the first iOS game on Unreal Engine 3 and attracted attention with its graphics, which at the time approached console level. The series later received two sequels, released in 2011 and 2013.

In December 2018, Epic Games removed the entire trilogy from the App Store and disabled in-app purchases. The company explained the decision by stating that maintaining the series at the required level was becoming increasingly difficult. Game owners could re-download them from their purchase history for some time, but in 2020, this option disappeared after Epic Games' account was removed from the Apple store.

Bidding farewell to the series, Epic Games hinted that Infinity Blade might still appear "in unexpected places." The eponymous sword was later added to Fortnite, but the games themselves were never re-released, and the franchise never received a full-fledged sequel.

The public version of the port is available for download from the project archive.
