SanDisk to Sell Memory Cards for Xbox Series X|S - Prices Reach Up to $340

SanDisk has become the third manufacturer to introduce memory cards for Xbox Series X|S consoles. Previously, only Seagate produced such cards.

Initially, 1 TB of additional storage from Seagate cost $219.99. Microsoft explained the high price by using drives with performance comparable to the consoles' internal SSDs, which is necessary for the Velocity Architecture.

It was assumed that the emergence of new manufacturers and the gradual decrease in flash memory costs would lead to cheaper memory cards. In 2023, Seagate indeed lowered prices: the 512 GB version became $89.99, 1 TB — $149.99, and 2 TB — $279.99.

In the same year, Western Digital became the second manufacturer. The company introduced 500 GB and 1 TB cards priced at $79.99 and $149.99, respectively.

Now, almost six years after the release of Xbox Series X|S, a third option has appeared on the market — SanDisk Optimus GX C50. However, competition has not yet led to the expected price reduction. Moreover, amidst the general increase in storage prices, the new SanDisk cards turned out to be quite expensive:

However, these prices may be temporary. On the official SanDisk website, the standard prices for the drives are even higher: $137.99 for 512 GB, $249.99 for 1 TB, and $424.99 for 2 TB. Thus, the regular price for the 1 TB version even exceeds the cost of a similar card at the launch of Xbox Series X|S.
