In the finale of Fallout season two, the Ghoul discovered Barb and Janey's empty cryo-chambers, and in one of them, a postcard with the inscription “Colorado was a good idea.” Cooper took the message as a clue to his family's whereabouts and headed to the Rocky Mountains. The creators of the series did not then reveal where exactly this trail would lead the hero, but now the first hints have appeared thanks to photos from the filming of the third season.
The footage from the set shows a post-apocalyptic Salt Lake City. Among the decorations, a theater was noticed advertising a performance or film starring the Ghoul – already under his current name, without mentioning Cooper Howard. Extras were also recruited for filming inside the building for the roles of spectators, so Walton Goggins' character will likely appear before the inhabitants of the Wasteland on stage.
In other materials from the filming, fans noticed stunt doubles for Maximus and Norm, which hints that other main characters will also reach Salt Lake City.
But of particular interest are the graffiti mentioning Joshua Graham, placed on the decorations. In addition, casting announcements feature “Mormon Sisters” – presumably, a post-war religious association. Graham practices Mormonism and hails from New Canaan, founded by survivors of Salt Lake City. In Fallout: New Vegas, he is known as the Burned Man – a former Caesar's legate and one of the central characters of the Honest Hearts DLC.
This route hints that the series will directly address the legacy of Van Buren. The canceled Fallout 3 from Black Isle Studios was supposed to take the player through Salt Lake City and New Canaan in Colorado, where Denver, a scientific complex in Boulder, and Tibbetts Prison were planned as key locations.
Joshua Graham also appeared in Van Buren documents. At that time, he was called the Hanged Man and was planned to be a possible companion for the main character. Later, Obsidian significantly reworked the character for Fallout: New Vegas, retaining individual elements of his biography.
Filming for the third season of Fallout continues. The premiere of new episodes is expected on Prime Video in 2027.
