Working Title and Hasbro Entertainment have begun developing a live-action film about Action Man. The upcoming picture is described as a "deeply British" adventure comedy that will pay homage to classic action films.
The script will be written by Simon Hatt and Anthony Sellitti. Hatt served as executive producer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," while Sellitti worked on the animated series "X-Men '97." The producer will be former Marvel Studios executive Jeremy Latcham, who was involved in the creation of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves."
The project is in the early stages of development. The director, cast, and premiere date have not yet been announced.
Action Man first appeared in the UK in 1966. Palitoy released the figure as a licensed British version of the American G.I. Joe, which decades later made its way to the big screen in a film series that began with "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra."
In 1993, Hasbro relaunched Action Man, gradually shifting the focus from military themes to spy and adventure stories. The hero gained his own allies and adversaries, the main one being the terrorist Doctor X. In the 2000s, the franchise received several animated films and video games for PlayStation, PC, and Game Boy, but Action Man subsequently faded into obscurity for a long time.
