Showrunner of "Lanterns" Reveals How the Series Will Prepare John Stewart for "Superman: Legacy"
Exactly one week remains until the premiere of the superhero "True Detective."
Aaron Pierre's appearance in "Superman: Legacy" was announced back in March 2026. Now, "Lanterns" showrunner Chris Mundy has revealed how DC Studios' future plans for John Stewart influenced the series' plot:
"We weren't tasked with bringing the character to a specific point, and that was wonderful. We had the freedom to end the story where we saw fit."
At the same time, the team considered that after "Lanterns," Stewart's story would continue in other DC projects:
"John will be part of the larger DC Universe. It was important for us to know that. We left him at a point that satisfies the studio and from which the creators can continue his story if they wish."
Thus, "Lanterns" will tell a standalone story, and the ending chosen by the creators will allow Stewart's journey in the cinematic universe to continue without additional obstacles.
In "Lanterns," rookie John Stewart and experienced Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, will investigate a murder in rural America connected to a larger cosmic threat.
"Lanterns" premieres on August 17, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max. "Superman: Legacy" will be released worldwide on July 9, 2027.
