
Valve brings back "Overwatch" to CS2 - collected data will help train VACnet to find cheaters
Recently, Gabe Follower, a well-known blogger-dataminer in the Half-Life and Counter-Strike 2 communities, reminded players about the "Overwatch" system. In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, some players had the opportunity to review match recordings and decide whether the suspect was cheating or playing fairly.
Judging by the traces found in the code, Valve is preparing a separate CS2 Video Review portal, which is linked to the VACnet system. Eligible players will be able to review match recordings and deliver a verdict (or skip if the case is debatable).
However, the decision of the reviewing player will not directly lead to the blocking of the alleged cheater. The main task of this system is to collect data that will be used to train VACnet so that the system can better identify cheaters.
Gabe Follower published the warning text from this portal. The developers explain the principle of operation and also urge not to broadcast or record videos with the shown fragments of CS2 Video Review, so as not to help malicious actors identify the best ways to hide cheats:
