Sony and Sucker Punch Announce Major Story Expansion for Ghost of Yōtei and Expanded Game Edition
Lots of new content in October.
The developers of Ghost of Yōtei have announced a major update for the game, timed to coincide with its first anniversary since release. On October 1st, the project will receive the story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara, a new single-player mode Most Wanted, as well as a number of changes and improvements.
The main addition will be Echoes of Sekigahara. The story will be divided between events in the present and flashbacks to Atsu's past. In Ezo, the heroine will meet Nagato – a man from her past who arrives in the region. Players will also explore a previously unknown valley where the Serpent and his followers, known as the Vipers, once lived.
Flashbacks will transport Atsu to the mainland during the Battle of Sekigahara and tell one of the important episodes of her life before returning home. Along with the new story, new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, new dyes, and other items will appear.
The second major addition will be Most Wanted – a single-player combat survival mode with roguelike elements. Before starting a run, the player will choose a contract to hunt a target, after which battles will allow them to gain various power-ups and unlock new characters. Among the available heroes, the developers showed Atsu with two katanas, Oyuki with a kusarigama, and Nagato with a spear.
Both expansions will be included in Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, which will cost $69.99. The edition also includes the base game and the cooperative mode Ghost of Yōtei Legends with support for up to four players.
For owners of the original version, a separate Complete Edition Upgrade will be available for $14.99. However, purchasing the expansion is not necessary to get some new features: the October 1st patch will add the Beauty of Yōtei mode to all players, which turns the Ezo environment into a kind of screensaver, as well as several other improvements.
In particular, it will be possible to save the appearance of one armor set while using the characteristics of another. The developers will also add a new high-contrast mode for accessibility.
In addition, the update will bring new compositions for Watanabe Mode, additional stamps for photo mode, cosmetic items for New Game+, and new trophies related to the two expansions.
