As reported by Deadline, Disney+ has decided not to greenlight a new "Power Rangers" series. Jonathan Steinberg and Dan Shotz, showrunners of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," were set to be the project's writers and executive producers, with Disney-owned 20th Television handling production.
According to the publication's sources, the decision is not related to script quality or other creative issues. The main obstacle was the series' cost, which would have required extensive sets, costumes, and visual effects. Disney simply did not want to invest significant funds in intellectual property belonging to Hasbro.
This is not the first time Hasbro has tried to reboot "Power Rangers." Previously, a new version was being developed for Netflix, but that project also failed to reach production. Now, the rights holder will have to look for a new partner.
