In Marvel's Wolverine, not only Wolverine regenerates - Insomniac explained why the suit recovers
The release of Marvel's Wolverine is approaching, and the developers are gradually revealing various details of the project. Recently, Insomniac Games answered some community questions, including commenting on a feature of Wolverine's regeneration mechanics.
During the presentation of Marvel's Wolverine at State of Play, many players noticed that not only the main character's wounds heal. Mike Fitzgerald, the studio's technical director, explained the “regeneration” of clothing during a conversation with IGN:
I think it's mostly a matter of practicality. You can't go through most of the game with the hero in nothing but tattered rags. So we're looking for the right balance between showing clothing that reflects what's happening in the gameplay and moments when it regenerates to create the right cinematic image of Wolverine.
Senior Project Director Jess Reiner-Reed supported this desire to find a balance in displaying the suit's condition:
In the early stages, during a mission, the hero's clothes remained torn for too long. Because of this, the player didn't feel so powerful during gameplay. So yes, we definitely decided that finding the right balance is the right decision.
The developers of Marvel's Wolverine clarified that they “put a lot of effort” into how damage will be reflected on Wolverine's suit, as well as on his enemies and their clothing:
When you attack enemies, the blood splatters that fly out of them are not “pre-baked visual effects,” but real blood particles. They fall to the ground and leave exactly the stains that would form if the splatters hit Wolverine. If the hero walks through water, it washes away the blood, and there will be bloody streaks in the water.
Marvel's Wolverine is expected to be released on September 15 for PlayStation 5.
