Lucasfilm presented the first footage of "Star Wars: Starfighter" at D23 and revealed the name of Ryan Gosling's character. The actor plays Cade Oberon, a cynical adventurer from the galaxy's outer rim whose destiny is tied to the fastest starfighter in history.

Gosling took the stage alongside director Shawn Levy. First, the actor appeared in a "Mickey Mouse Club" jacket, which he was a member of at the beginning of his career, and then changed into Cade's leather jacket with some mysterious symbol on the back:

"Cade is a guy from the wrong side of the galaxy whose destiny becomes intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever created."

Attendees were then shown a clip from the film. It begins with young hero Flynn Gray removing a tarp from an old starship and running his hand over its hull. Cade asks the boy not to touch anything and explains that it's a decommissioned Imperial fighter, once considered the fastest ship in the galaxy.

The clip then transitions to a montage of scenes from the film. An unknown character speeds over a swamp, Cade repairs a ship and holds a massive tool or weapon, and the heroes cross waves in a small vessel. In other shots, a droid pilots a starship, and a man jumps across a chasm inside a technological complex. In the finale, Cade takes the controls of the found fighter and accelerates the ship to immense speed, leaving characteristic trails behind.

The events of "Starfighter" will unfold approximately five years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode IX." Along with Gosling, the film will feature Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, and Amy Adams. The director is Shawn Levy, known for "Deadpool & Wolverine."

"Star Wars: Starfighter" is set to premiere on May 28, 2027.
