Hearts of Iron IV to become more technologically advanced - Paradox to improve performance, modern processor support being tested
Recently, the technical lead from the Hearts of Iron IV global strategy team addressed the community. Pdxen announced the start of open beta testing for an update. It does not include balance changes; it is purely a technical patch.
The developer explained that many years have passed since the release of Hearts of Iron IV (2016), and the processors used in players' PCs have changed. Paradox Interactive decided to ensure support for modern CPU models – they will update multithreading libraries. This should positively affect HOI IV performance:
In those years, new processors typically had 4 cores and about 8 hardware threads, and all those cores were heterogeneous. Today, almost all processors, except for the most budget-friendly ones, have more cores and hardware threads, and these cores are no longer necessarily homogeneous. In this patch, we are updating the multithreading libraries used in HoI4, with the aim of improving performance on some machines.
Now, the developers of Hearts of Iron IV invite fans to participate in testing. This can be done through the game's properties in Steam in the beta versions section – the required one is called "open_beta.":
Given the fundamental nature of this update and the huge variety of configurations on which players run the game, we would appreciate your help in verifying that no unforeseen performance degradation occurs for specific hardware configurations before we release these changes to all players.
