HBO Max has renewed the series “Stuart Bloom Couldn't Save the Universe” for a second season. The decision was made quite quickly: only four of the ten episodes of the first season had been released on the streaming service.
Amy Gravitt, Head of Comedy at HBO and HBO Max, stated that the project interested both fans of the original sitcom and new audiences:
“We are thrilled with how audiences have embraced this funny, genre-bending series. It has resonated with both fans of 'The Big Bang Theory' and new viewers. We can't wait to see the worlds the creators will imagine for these beloved characters in the next season.”
Channing Dungey, Chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group, called the spin-off an original development of a well-known franchise:
“Chuck, Zack, and Bill have created something special – a completely fresh take on one of the most beloved franchises, while retaining the unique essence of 'The Big Bang Theory.' We are excited to continue exploring the multiverse in season two.”
“Stuart Bloom Couldn't Save the Universe” tells the story of a comic book store owner who accidentally breaks a device created by Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard, triggering a multiverse catastrophe. Denise, Bert, and Barry Kripke help him fix the consequences, and along the way, the heroes encounter alternative versions of familiar characters from “The Big Bang Theory.”
Kevin Sussman reprised his lead role. Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie also returned to their characters.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season received 77% positive reviews from critics and 83% from viewers. New episodes are released on Thursdays on HBO Max. The production and premiere dates for the second season have not yet been announced.
