The series "Lanterns" from DC Studios premiered on HBO and HBO Max. The first season consists of eight episodes, which will be released on Mondays. Along with the premiere, the channel published an almost three-minute trailer with footage from upcoming episodes.
"Lanterns" tells the story of veteran Green Lantern Corps member Hal Jordan and rookie John Stewart. The heroes undertake a murder investigation in rural America and gradually discover that a much more serious threat, connected to alien forces, is behind the crime.
HBO also released two behind-the-scenes videos. The first is a four-minute breakdown of the premiere episode with the cast and creators of the series.
The second focuses on the relationship between Hal and John and the on-screen chemistry of Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
Simultaneously, the official "Lanterns" podcast launched. In the first episode, host Juju Green discussed the premiere episode with showrunner Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The creators explained why they built the series around a grounded detective investigation, moved the action to Nebraska, and how they introduced viewers to the Green Lantern mythology without the need to read comics beforehand.
As of publication, the first season of "Lanterns" has 90% positive critical reviews and 88% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The final episode will be released on October 4.
