Sony is looking for a new mascot after the scandalous decision with PlayStation discs. A journalist introduced Disc-guy
Following Sony's decision to discontinue physical PlayStation disc games from January 2028, journalist Destin Legarie jokingly proposed a new mascot for the company, Disc-guy, symbolizing physical media.
Sony wants to improve its image after the PlayStation decision and is looking for a new character who could become as globally recognizable as Hello Kitty.
Over the years, the company has had many candidates for the role of an iconic mascot, including Crash Bandicoot. Sony is currently considering Nemu the Night Owl. However, journalist Destin Legarie, who led IGN's video department for almost 15 years, proposed his own version – Disc-guy.
The idea came after Sony's decision to stop releasing PlayStation games on discs from January 2028. The journalist believes that the new mascot can symbolize physical media.
He will bring you high income, and I will offer him for free. His name is Disc-guy. This mascot celebrates Sony's rich legacy of physical media. He represents values such as sharing games, lending games to friends, permanent ownership of games. (...) You now have many unnecessary discs, so you can use them to produce this mascot. (...) Everyone loves this guy. I think he is a good candidate for Sony's mascot. This is an early prototype that I am sharing with you for free.
