Silent Hill 2's Pyramid Head creator accidentally offended Madonna fans - they've been harassing him for months

A few months ago, a new round of debate erupted on social media regarding Silent Hill 2. The discussion about the “original source” (or source of inspiration) for the bubble-headed nurses resurfaced.

Artist Masahiro Ito, known to many as the creator of Pyramid Head, has for years refuted the theory that Madonna was the inspiration for the nurses' design. This “theory” arose from a mistaken interpretation of Masahiro's own words.

In fact, he meant that the inspiration came from a segment of Madonna's music video for “Nothing Really Matters” (1998) — the shot features dancers using characteristic movements.

In May of this year, the artist explained once again:

I did say before that I was inspired by Madonna's music video for “Nothing Really Matters”. However, I was referring to the Butoh-style dances performed by Asian dancers, completely painted white, in the video, not Madonna herself or her song.

In August, Masahiro Ito revealed that he continues to be harassed on social media by the singer's fans, who utter phrases like “You can't escape Madonna.”

The artist is accused of disrespecting the singer and arrogance, allegedly trying to distance himself from their idol's influence on Silent Hill. According to the disgruntled fans, the visuals from the “Nothing Really Matters” music video are Madonna's own concept, so Masahiro is behaving rudely by refusing to acknowledge her influence on the nurses' design.

Masahiro Ito simply started blocking such users.
