In the first two days, pre-sales for "Avengers: Doctor Doom" were 65% higher than for "Spider-Man: New Day" over the same period. This was reported by TheWrap, citing sources in the cinema industry.
Such a comparison is particularly impressive given the achievements of "New Day." The film debuted in the US with $360 million, grossed $927 million worldwide in its opening weekend, and surpassed the $2 billion mark three weeks after its premiere.
TheWrap attributes the high demand for "Doctor Doom" to the enthusiastic fan reaction to "New Day" and the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. According to the publication, these factors attract both devoted Marvel fans and viewers who have drifted away from the cinematic universe in recent years. Moreover, there will be significantly more high-profile returns in the film: many Marvel stars from previous years, including actors from the Fox X-Men era, will reprise their roles.
However, directly comparing the figures is difficult. Tickets for "Doctor Doom" went on sale four months before the premiere, while "New Day" pre-sales started 45 days prior. Due to this difference, it's hard to predict future dynamics, but initial results show that the new "Spider-Man" records may only last until December.
According to one theory, Marvel opened sales so early to get a head start in the competition with "Dune: Part Three." Both films are officially set to be released on December 18, 2026, but "Dune" IMAX screenings will begin four days earlier, on December 14, which was announced shortly after ticket sales for regular "Avengers" screenings began.
