"The Force Is Not With Us": Dave Filoni Crushes Fans' Hopes for Ben Solo's Return

Lucasfilm has no plans to return to the "Hunt for Ben Solo" film, which was supposed to continue Adam Driver's character's story after the events of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." At D23, Lucasfilm head Dave Filoni initially stated that the film was "not being made right now," and then gave a more definitive answer:

"He's not here, and you won't find him here. In that regard, the Force is not with us. But I'm glad to see how much you love him."

The "Hunt for Ben Solo" was initiated by Driver himself. Together with Steven Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt, he spent almost two and a half years developing the film's concept for free, after which Scott Z. Burns was brought in to write the screenplay, receiving $3 million for his work.

Lucasfilm supported the idea, but Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment Chairman Alan Bergman rejected the script. According to Driver, the executives did not understand how Ben Solo could have survived the events of "The Rise of Skywalker."

After the project was canceled, fans launched a campaign in its support: they started petitions, put up posters, and paid for billboards in Times Square with the slogan "Save Ben Solo." These efforts did not help bring the film back into development.

Soderbergh himself is no longer planning to return to "Hunt for Ben Solo." In April 2026, the director rejected the possibility of resuming development after Filoni's appointment as head of Lucasfilm. He does not regret the years spent, but considers this story finished. According to Soderbergh, if the film were meant to happen, it would have already gone into production.
