The creators of "Hey Arnold!" are preparing a sequel - the characters will grow up a bit
Arnold and his friends will face the problems of modern children.
Writer and producer of "Hey Arnold!" Joe Purdy confirmed that the creators are discussing a possible continuation of the animated series with Paramount management.
The project has not yet gone into production, but the team already has ideas: Arnold and his friends could be a year or two older, and modern technologies and new problems would appear in their lives:
"Absolutely. Yes, yes and yes again. The business environment and decision-makers are constantly changing. It's an old story [...] But rest assured: we are in negotiations."
The creator of "Hey Arnold!" Craig Bartlett would like to continue the theme of changes in the main character's neighborhood, which was already touched upon in the feature film "Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie." One of the sources of inspiration for him was the transformation of Brooklyn:
"I would continue the story of gentrification. Both sides are interesting here: what good changes and progress brought – and what was lost."
Among other possible topics are the impact of smartphones on children and the shortening of attention spans. At the same time, Bartlett still wants to avoid direct political statements and tell stories that will remain relevant in a few years.
"Hey Arnold!" aired on Nickelodeon from 1996 to 2004 and consists of five seasons and 100 episodes. In 2017, the story was continued in the animated film "Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie."
