Sony Pictures has released new stills from "Resident Evil" by director Zach Cregger, known for "Barbarian" and "Weapons." They show medical courier Brian, played by Austin Abrams, making his way through a dark tunnel, grabbing a shotgun, and facing the consequences of a virus outbreak. Cregger himself also appeared in one of the shots. Apparently, the director will have a small cameo, playing an Umbrella Corporation lab employee.
The new "Resident Evil" will tell an independent story based on the Resident Evil universe. Brian is tasked with delivering a container with a donor organ to a hospital in Raccoon City, but a routine trip quickly turns into a fight for survival. All events of the film will take place over one night. Cregger wants to convey the feeling of playing Resident Evil games. The hero will explore dangerous places, conserve ammunition, and look for a way out of various deadly situations.
Cregger wrote the script with Shay Hatten. In addition to Abrams, the film stars Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser, and Jonno Wilson.
The premiere of "Resident Evil" in international cinemas will take place on September 18, 2026.
