Nioh 3 received its first major expansion, Hell Rising
New weapons, bosses, locations, and much more.
On August 19, the first major expansion for Nioh 3, Hell Rising, became available.
Hell Rising transports players to Edo during the Keian era, where the region has been engulfed by the Crucible.
The expansion adds new missions and enemies, as well as two new weapon categories – Hoko and shield. According to the developers, this weapon combines the offensive capabilities of a short spear with the defensive properties of a shield.
New equipment capabilities can be tested in the "Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls," which allow players to create customizable battles and replay them.
Hell Rising also introduced a new difficulty level, which provides additional opportunities for character development and creating various builds. In addition, the expansion includes new Guardian Spirits, martial arts, skills, Ninjutsu techniques, and Onmyo magic, expanding the combat options available to players.
Simultaneously with the release of Hell Rising, Koei Tecmo confirmed that the Team Ninja team has already begun work on the second expansion for Nioh 3, titled Bloody Insurrection. The release date has not yet been announced, but according to information about the season pass, the release is scheduled no later than February 2027.
