"The Walking Dead" Is Here to Stay: Franchise Curator Confirms New Series Development

News 0

Scott Gimple revealed at MultiCon 2026 that the team is already discussing several new "The Walking Dead" series. However, the approach to developing the television universe will change: projects will no longer be released one after another with the same frequency.

Gimple did not specify which series are in the works or when they should be expected. According to him, creators can now afford to take their time and dedicate more attention to each idea:

"Will we see as many series? I'm not sure. This is happening with 'Star Wars' and Marvel too. There will definitely be new projects, both short and long-running. They will just be released a little less frequently. We have interesting ideas in the works, and even this week I've been discussing them a lot. The old rush of 'release it quickly' is gone. These are different times, but they allow us to do everything right."

At the same time, no one is planning to end the television "The Walking Dead." Gimple believes that the franchise is at most halfway through its journey, and perhaps even closer to its beginning:

"I definitely don't think this is the end of 'The Walking Dead' on television. That certainly won't happen. The franchise will continue to evolve. At the latest, we are halfway through its journey, and perhaps still closer to the beginning."

Gimple also did not abandon the idea of a large crossover that could bring together characters from different "The Walking Dead" spin-offs. The team has certain plans in this regard, but nothing specific has been announced yet.

Currently, the third season of "Dead City" about Maggie and Negan is airing on AMC. In 2027, the fourth and final season of "Daryl Dixon" will be released, where Daryl and Carol will continue to search for a way to return from Europe to the USA.
