PS4 owners who recently launched Call of Duty: Black Ops II might have noticed a rather strange offer – the console is showing an advertisement for pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. At first glance, there's nothing unusual, except that the game won't be released on PS4 at all.
Modern Warfare 4 is announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version on the list of platforms.
At the same time, the advertisement on the old console does indeed offer to pre-order the PS5 version. Therefore, a PS4 owner who simply sees the banner in the store might not immediately realize that it refers to a different platform.
The reason for Activision's decision is currently unknown. Perhaps this is a common error in the promotion system, or maybe the publisher simply decided not to bother with filtering ads for older devices.
