Renowned insider Kepler_L2 stated that given the current cost of components, a price below $600 for a portable PlayStation seems practically unattainable. Responding to a question about the cost of LPDDR5X memory, the insider noted that this type of memory is currently increasing in price particularly rapidly.
The artificial intelligence boom has significantly increased demand for various types of memory, leading electronics manufacturers to face higher component costs for data centers.
Meanwhile, the rising cost of memory is already impacting the current generation market. Specifically, the increase in GDDR6 costs was one of the reasons for the price hike of AMD Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards. However, according to Kepler_L2, PlayStation 5 owners should not expect a sharp increase in console prices due to memory shortages for now.
Sony has not yet officially announced the price, specifications, or even the final parameters of the rumored next-generation portable PlayStation.
