Level-sized Easter Egg: Mortal Shell 2 Features a Remake of a Location from Doom 1993
The developers even preserved the original secrets.
Players have discovered a large Easter egg in Mortal Shell 2 referencing the first Doom. The developers from Cold Symmetry recreated the starting level E1M1: Hangar from the 1993 shooter, reimagining it in a dark fantasy style.
The familiar room layout, barrels, the zigzag bridge over toxic waste, and a lever hidden behind a pillar all remain. Even the secrets from the original E1M1 work: behind a hidden wall is a courtyard with a pond, and a secret elevator in the room with the bridge leads to a rare material, Dorsalite.
You can enter the dungeon using the Gloomslayer seal, which must be used in the fortress. It destroys an illusory wall and opens a cave with a chained lantern. If you break the chains holding it, the character will be transported directly to the beginning of E1M1. For completing the level, the player receives the Gloom resource.
A detailed analysis of the secret location was published on the Graviton Gaming YouTube channel:
Mortal Shell 2 was released on August 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. On Steam, the soulslike received 77% positive reviews after more than 7.7 thousand reviews.
