Former Dragon Age Game Director Expects Less Wokeness in AAA Games Due to Social Media Pressure

News 1

Former Dragon Age series director Mark Darrah believes that major game studios may start reducing the number of diversity and inclusion elements in their projects in the coming years. In his opinion, the reason will be increasing pressure from the most active social media users.

Darrah, who worked at BioWare for many years, participated in the creation of games that were once considered some of the most progressive in the industry.

According to the developer, AAA studios are unlikely to completely abandon diverse characters. However, some companies may change their role in the plot. For example, the number of characters with a certain identity may remain the same, but instead of important companions, they will become secondary heroes.

I think we're going to see less of it in mainstream games. I think there will be studios that say, "I won't back down," and that's good. But some will.
