"A True Dream": Kit Harington Comments on Playing Gilderoy Lockhart in "Harry Potter" Series
The "Game of Thrones" star replaced Nicholas Hoult, who dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Kit Harington commented on his appearance in the second season of the "Harry Potter" series. In an interview with Collider, the actor admitted that he has long loved J.K. Rowling's books, and Gilderoy Lockhart is among his favorite characters:
"You're the first person I'm talking to about this. The news just broke, and I'm thrilled. I've told everyone who'll listen a million times that I'm a huge 'Harry Potter' fan. Honestly, Lockhart is one of my favorite characters. To be offered the chance to play him is a true dream."
Harington has already partially embodied the self-absorbed Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher: he previously voiced Lockhart in the official English-language audiobook version of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." However, in the series, the actor plans to approach the role a little differently:
"In the series, I won't exactly replicate the audiobook version – it's a completely different format, after all. But I've already had a chance to try out this character in practice and get a feel for his personality. He's just wonderfully conceived."
