The value of The Witcher 4 authors plummeted by almost half a billion dollars after the announcement of the release window
The market clearly expected the release of the new "Witcher" much earlier.
Recently, CD Projekt RED published an address to the community before Gamescom. The developers stated that The Witcher 4 is not planned for release in 2027.
The game still does not have a specific release date; only the release window for The Witcher 4: 2028 is known. The market reacted to this announcement with a drop in the Polish company's stock value.
Before the announcement of the release window, shares traded at 257 – 259 Polish zlotys (~$69-70), and the opening of trading was marked by a fall to approximately 239 Polish zlotys ($64). The value then briefly rose to 245, but after that, it quickly returned to the 239 level.
Such a drop, in terms of market capitalization, cost CD Projekt RED approximately 400 million dollars.
Currently, CD Projekt RED is developing not only The Witcher 4 but also a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. In addition, in collaboration with Fool’s Theory studio, they are preparing an expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past (or "Ballads of the Past" in Russian localization) — its release is expected next year.
