AI caused a scandal around Crazy Taxi: World Tour. Sega made an important clarification
Sega has changed the description of generative AI use in Crazy Taxi: World Tour and now states that the final version of the game will not include AI-generated content.
Previously, Sega reported that it used generative AI as an auxiliary tool during game development, including for background objects. Now the wording has become more precise:
In Crazy Taxi: World Tour, generative AI was used during the idea development phase for background objects. However, AI-generated content will not be included in the final version of the game.
The change, according to Wayback Machine data, occurred between late July and early August.
When the game's page first appeared on Steam, the use of AI sparked controversy among series fans. A Sega representative then stated that the generated materials were reviewed by developers. Later, Crazy Taxi creator Kenji Kanno clarified that AI was used only "as reference material," and actual in-game objects were created by humans.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour will be released in 2027 on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.
