Developers from Hoothanes have unveiled a new trailer for The Defiant — a dynamic shooter about the events of World War II in China. The video is dedicated to the battles of 1942 near the Futuya Great Wall, where soldiers face superior enemy forces.
The plot centers on a group of soldiers from the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army operating in the snow-covered forests of northeastern China. Players will visit the streets and alleys of occupied cities, transformed into well-fortified positions. The authors emphasize the grim and tense atmosphere of the War of Resistance in China, showing its tragic consequences.
The Defiant's arsenal will be era-appropriate. Players will have access to, among others, the Hanyang 88 rifle, the Mauser C96 pistol, and the SIG Bergmann Model 1920. Weapons will have to be actively used in numerous firefights, but open combat will be far from the only threat.
The developers warn that almost every location will be under surveillance by searchlights. The occupying forces use them to detect any signs of resistance, so players will have to monitor their movement and choose the right moment to attack.
The creators describe The Defiant as a unique collection of stories united by a common memory of the war. According to the developers, it is “a collective memory waiting for an opportunity to come alive again.”
The Defiant does not yet have a precise release date. The game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
