Instead, she emphasized that when developing the new generation, the company must consider not only performance but also the cost and efficiency of the device.

She later added that Xbox would take into account global changes and strive to create the "best experience" for players.
Meanwhile, more and more signs point to Microsoft potentially abandoning disc drives. The company has already gone this route in the current generation: the Xbox Series X is released with physical media support, while the more affordable and popular Xbox Series S completely lacks a disc drive. Furthermore, according to research firm Circana, Xbox accounted for only 4% of revenue from new physical game sales in the US in 2026.
