GTA VI will feature a more vibrant open world, relationship system, and consequences for decisions - new details emerge

A new large batch of details about Grand Theft Auto VI has appeared online, covering not only the plot and missions but also the daily lives of Jason and Lucia, interactions with characters, the wanted system, and open-world possibilities.

One of the key innovations will be a revamped character control system. Movement, running, jumping, and climbing should feel noticeably smoother. At the same time, Rockstar wants the player's actions outside of the main quests to have a greater impact on the story.

In GTA VI, players will have to make many decisions — both major and completely minor. Some small actions can have more serious consequences over time. The narrative will remain fairly linear and cinematic, but the developers have tried to connect what happens in the open world as much as possible with the characters of Jason and Lucia and their stories.

The plot is also designed for replayability. Missions can offer several options for action and escape routes. In some situations, the player can choose, for example, to be the driver or participate in a shootout, as well as use different routes and methods to complete the task.

Lucia's electronic ankle bracelet will play a special role in the story — the device should significantly influence the campaign's events.

Rockstar also intends to blur the usual line between story missions and open-world activities. The story will encourage players not just to move from one mission to another, but to spend time in Leonida and engage in various activities.

The relationship between the main characters will become a separate system. Jason and Lucia live together, but each has their own schedule, which should make their daily lives look more natural.

Characters will be able to wake up, make coffee, shower, change clothes, exercise, and go about their business. Other characters may also appear in safe houses from time to time.

Romantic relationships between Jason and Lucia are not mandatory. The player decides how close they will be. Spending time together outside of the main missions can develop a romantic bond. Together, the heroes can walk around Leonida, go shopping and to hairdressers, play sports, commit robberies, and participate in other activities.

However, romance will not provide any special in-game bonuses — it is primarily a role-playing component. Even if Jason and Lucia do not become romantically close, the degree of their mutual affection can still affect individual missions.

In the open world, the heroes will be able to interact with each other more naturally: for example, holding hands or opening doors for each other. If the player is away from their partner for a long time, Jason or Lucia may send them a message — for example, asking them to lock the house upon return or informing them that they are going to sleep. Ignoring such messages can negatively affect the relationship.

Each of the main characters will be able to own several vehicles. Cars will have functional trunks where you can store spare clothes and weapons.

This will be useful not only in everyday life but also during robberies or chases. For example, the player can leave the necessary weapons or a set of clothes in the car in advance to prepare for a shootout or escape from police pursuit.

Carjacking will also become more difficult. Vehicles will be divided into several price categories: expensive cars will be better protected and require more effort to break into.

To assess potential loot, a WAINK app will appear on the phone. It will allow you to find out the approximate cost of the car, the price of its registration as a personal vehicle, the presence of an alarm and lock, a tracker, and other characteristics.

GTA VI should bring back the classic six-star wanted system. However, a crime will not automatically lead to the appearance of the police: first, the violation must be noticed by a bystander or an alarm must go off.

The police will be able to remember the suspect's appearance and clothing. This information will be displayed with separate icons under the wanted level.

Changing a hairstyle will help conceal one's appearance, but this will not be enough — the police will still know what the criminal was wearing. Therefore, for a complete change of appearance, you will have to change clothes as well.

Masks, in turn, will be able to prevent identification even in situations where the criminal was caught on surveillance cameras.

During an escape, Jason and Lucia will be able to split up. The player will be able to order their partner to hide, taking the police pursuit upon themselves.

It is also interesting that shootouts will not necessarily end with the killing of opponents. The player will be able to incapacitate enemies by shooting at their arms or legs, as well as knocking weapons out of their hands.

The financial system should become much more important. In some situations, the player will need to have a certain amount of money to advance through the story.

You can earn money through various criminal means: stealing and selling cars, robbing stores and businesses, raids, and bank robberies.

The police, however, will be able to prepare for the appearance of criminals. For example, after a bank or store robbery, law enforcement officers may take positions near the building and wait for Jason or Lucia to exit. However, some places will have alternative escape routes, including back doors.

The world itself will also react to the player's behavior. Senseless violence, chaos, and crimes, or, conversely, relatively law-abiding behavior, will affect the character's so-called criminal profile. Even seemingly insignificant actions, such as littering, can be taken into account.

The developers describe the map as "very large," although its exact size has not yet been revealed.

There will be many random events in the world. One example is meeting a suspicious lawyer sitting in a dumpster: if you give him pills, he may later provide legal advice to the player.

Fast travel will appear through the Ryde Me taxi app. However, trips will not just be a loading screen — during the journey, you can talk to other passengers and have full conversations with them.

The phone will become a separate tool for interacting with the world. Through it, you can use apps like Snapmatic, an Instagram* parody, view posts, follow other accounts, and simply spend time on the virtual social network.

Activities will also significantly increase. Among them are mentioned:

  • kayaking
  • mini-golf
  • billiards
  • visiting the zoo
  • diving
  • skydiving
  • gym workouts
  • various joint activities for Jason and Lucia

Exploring nature will also return in the spirit of Red Dead Redemption 2 — the player will be able to explore the wildlife of Leonida.

Rockstar continues to develop the character behavior system created for Red Dead Redemption 2. Characters will be able to notice if the player is eavesdropping on their conversations, and even engage in conflict if they consider Jason's or Lucia's behavior excessive.

The number of character models and body types will significantly increase. The system will dynamically adapt animations to the size of a specific character to make their interaction with the environment look more natural.

The developers also promise a large number of interactive elements in almost every environment.

Jason and Lucia will be able to suggest nearby activities or work to each other, which should make exploring Leonida feel less "gamey" and more organic.
