Amazon Finds New Robocop - Dan Stevens to Play Alex Murphy
The creators of Paul Verhoeven's original film have been brought in to reboot the franchise.
According to Deadline, Dan Stevens will star in the "Robocop" series from Amazon MGM Studios. The star of "Legion" and "Downton Abbey" will embody Alex Murphy and his cybernetic alter ego.
The first season will consist of eight episodes and will tell the story of events that unfold after a major technology corporation convinces city authorities to introduce a new robot into the police force, with the mind of the deceased officer Alex Murphy.
Peter Ocko, who worked on the series "Lodge 49," "Pushing Daisies," and "The Office," will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Blumhouse Atomic Monster will handle production, with James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett participating. The screenwriters of the original 1987 "Robocop," Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, have also joined the team as executive producers.
James Wan promised to preserve the key ideas of Paul Verhoeven's film and reinterpret them in light of modern technological reality:
