"Uninteresting Sociopaths": Kingdom Come Creator Criticizes GTA VI Character Presentation, But Notes a Positive Aspect

News

The creator is simply not captivated by such a plot, but he thinks some players will be fine with it.

In late August, Rockstar Games held a presentation titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Showcase," during which players got to see the PlayStation 5 version. Some well-known developers also watched the show – not everyone was thrilled.

For example, Daniel Vavra, the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, paid attention to the GTA VI presentation and decided to share his "humble opinion" on social media. He did not appreciate how the developers approached the character demonstration.

First, Vavra explained what he believes is needed to create a good story:

In my humble opinion (and the opinion of everyone who has ever written good stories), a good story needs internal and external conflict, complex characters with interesting motivations, a consistent, logically structured world, a theme, meaning, a "message" (in a good sense of the word), logic, and also interesting and likable characters.

However, at the presentation, Vavra explains, he saw "two uninteresting sociopaths," but he did note another positive aspect – technically, Grand Theft Auto VI is a "miracle":

What I saw was an absolutely fantastic tech demo, bordering on a technological miracle: an open world so open that no one has ever created anything like it, and two uninteresting sociopaths chaotically committing mass murders of innocents for other sociopaths and money. Personally, the plot didn't grab me at all. Surely this will work for multiplayer and for those who want to do all sorts of crazy things. But there used to be much more. You can hate me – I'm used to it :)

GTA VI is expected to be released on November 19 this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Nothing has been announced yet regarding the PC version's release window.
