PS6 and New Sony Handheld: Digital Foundry Reveals Unexpected Details
The power-saving mode on PS5 and Sony's new portable project are not related to PS6 development - these are two separate engineering projects.
A lot of theories have emerged around the recently introduced PS5 power-saving mode and rumors of a new Sony portable device. Some players suggested that power optimization is laying the groundwork for next-generation architecture and a PS6 companion portable device.
However, Digital Foundry analysts studied information from their sources and stated that the projects are not directly related. These are separate engineering initiatives within Sony.
PS5 power-saving features appeared for practical and regulatory reasons, including stricter European requirements for power consumption.
Initially, the mode was developed primarily for multimedia and less demanding background processes, and not as a basis for powering a new generation mobile system. At the same time, individual power management solutions may indeed be useful in compact devices in the future.
