Microsoft has put up for sale a single package of film rights for over a dozen Xbox gaming franchises. According to Puck journalist Matthew Belloni, the company is looking for one partner and expects to sign a long-term agreement with them worth over $300 million.
The package allegedly includes Halo, World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Diablo, but the full list of franchises is not yet known. Judging by already announced projects, it likely will not include Fallout, which Amazon is adapting, Call of Duty, which is tied to Paramount, and Gears of War, for which Netflix is preparing films and an animated series. The Sea of Thieves film, announced in June, is being developed by Xbox in collaboration with Hisako Films – the production company of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" director Destin Daniel Cretton.
Netflix, Paramount, and Universal are already reviewing the offer. According to Puck, the asking price has caused at least one potential buyer to question the feasibility of the deal. Representatives from all three companies, as well as Microsoft, declined to comment on the information.
